Hush - Survival of the fittest
Hush had me on the edge of my seat most of the time. A great story confined to one location, something that is very hard to achieve. Many films have multiple locations and sets but this one approaches it from on location and a simple home setting. A deaf writer moves from the big city to the middle of a forest to try and finish her book. We are introduced to her friends who live close by, but the area she lives in is mostly secluded.
The way the mise-en-scene was done was brilliant. Every single prop was placed in that specific location for a reason.Having the film in just her house gives the sense of being trapped which inspired the location for our movie. There is a scene where we see the kitchen knives and the usual thing is to focus on the main character doing what she’s doing but we find out later in the movie those knives play a vital part in her survival against a psychopathic killer. Because she is deaf we are shown how she uses her other senses to figure out where the killer was and how she can survive against him.
Another scene where the art department was on point was in the bathroom, she had lost a lot of blood and she had to clean and cover the wound. Everything was found in the mirror cabinet in the film. Something you would find in a bathroom cabinet. This psychological thriller really takes you through a journey of how she tries to survive, always on the edge of your seat. A must watch to those looking to be thrilled!
